Expertise

Our laboratory is mainly focusing the following objectives

1. Understanding the dietary bioactive proteins from cereal/pseudocereal bran for their anticancer potential -

Purification characterization of important bio-active proteins are being studied for their anti-cancer potential. The detailed signaling mechanism is being studied using in vitro and in vivo methods.

2. Natural oligosaccharides and their important biological activities –

a. Arabinoxylan oligosaccharides (AXOS) are important natural oligosaccharides. We are trying to understand their inhibitory potential against carbohydrate digesting enzymes which will help in combating type-2 diabetes.  Mechanism of inhibition and their clinical significance for its functional food application is being investigated.

b. AXOS are also being studied for their anticancer potential on gastrointestinal cancer. The detailed characterization of potent AXOS and signaling mechanism involved are being studied

3. Development of protein based nutraceutical enriched ingredients for the health benefits.

Area of interest

Functional food carbohydrates; Anti-cancer signaling pathways; Lectins & Glycobiology
