Director's Message

Greetings from CSIR-CFTRI!

As a leading research institute with seventy-five years of expertise in Food Science and Technology, CSIR-CFTRI invites you to explore our website for an in-depth overview of our research focus areas, strategic initiatives, and long-term vision. We are committed to advancing knowledge and innovation in the field, fostering scientific collaboration, and addressing contemporary challenges in food quality, safety, and sustainability.

Since its establishment in 1950, the CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CSIR-CFTRI) has spearheaded numerous initiatives to tackle critical societal challenges through innovative solutions tailored for the Indian food sector, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The Institute has made significant contributions in key areas, including food processing, food safety, automation in traditional food preparation, and value addition to agricultural commodities, while integrating translational sciences. Furthermore, our initiatives are strategically aligned with national programs to enhance the food ecosystem across all societal strata, translating research and knowledge into sustainable products that support the nation’s development.

Over the years, we have developed advanced infrastructure tailored for specialised research across various fields, including new methods of processing nutritious foods, health and wellness, food quality and safety, machinery development, food processing, food packaging, traditional foods, and post-harvest processing. This specialised approach has led to significant progress in methodologies and products, and to a strong portfolio of publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Our stakeholder ecosystem encompasses a diverse array of entities, including agricultural producers, MSMEs, government bodies, multinational corporations (MNCs), innovative start-ups, and academic communities. The Institute is renowned for its Master’s Program in Food Technology and offers comprehensive doctoral programs across a spectrum of scientific and engineering disciplines. Furthermore, the Institute actively administers a range of technical training programs, emphasising capacity building, skill development, and community outreach initiatives to foster industry-academic collaboration.

I encourage you to explore our website, where you can discover in-depth information about our ongoing R&D programs, recent innovations, and the expertise of our talented faculty. By fostering potential collaboration, meaningful advancements can be realised that will positively impact our communities and industries alike.

With Best Wishes
