Hon’ble Minister (S&T) Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized that each of 37 CSIR laboratories is unique and specializes in as diverse areas as the genome to geology, food to fuel, minerals to materials, and so on.

To showcase and propagate such diversity across society Hon’ble Minister announced the idea of “One Week, One Lab” to be a nationwide theme-based campaign to showcase the technological breakthroughs and innovations in the CSIR labs..

  • To identify the needs of regions, industry- develop and provide desired scientific solutions
  • To develop collaboration with states and industry for deployment and commercialization
  • To identify the potential industry for the co-development of next-gen technology & products
  • To create networks of govt-academia-industry for faster delivery and deployment
  • To motivate youngsters and budding entrepreneurs to create startups

About CSIR-CFTRI

CSIR−Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore (A constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi) came into existence during 1950 with the great vision of its founders, and a network of inspiring as well as dedicated scientists who had a fascination to pursue in-depth research and development in the areas of food science and technology. Research focus of CSIR-CFTRI has been revolved around broadly into the following areas:

Food Technology being inter-disciplinary in nature the mandate or vision of the Institute is fulfilled through various R&D Departments and Support Departments along with its Resource Centres at Hyderabad, Lucknow and Mumbai.

CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CSIR-CFTRI), since its inception in 1950, has been in the forefront in addressing many societal challenges while providing innovative solutions to Indian food industries including MSMEs. The Institute has been contributing immensely in the area of Food Processing, Food Safety, Automation in Traditional Foods Preparation, Value Addition to Agri-commodities along with translational sciences. Also our efforts are fully aligned with various national initiatives that cater to every strata of the society while translating knowledge into sustainable products contributing to the progress of the Nation.

Over the years, we have developed state-of-the-art infrastructure for advanced research in the areas such as Nutrition, Health and Wellness, Food Safety, Machinery development, Food Processing, Food Packaging, Traditional Foods, and post-harvest processing. The focus has brought dividends in terms of processes, products and publications in peer-reviewed journals.

We have a large set of stakeholders including farmers, startups, Govt. agencies, MSMEs, MNCs and student communities in this journey. The Institute has been conducting a premier Master’s Course in Food Technology and Doctoral programmes in various science and engineering streams. Besides, the Institute has been conducting many technical and training programmes including Skill Development and Outreach programmes.
